Antique hinged elbow splint. From the Civil War era. Made from wood. Made to be worn on the inside of the elbow. This brace was used with a shoulder strap for added stability. The adjustable tension settings changed the amount of motion and resistance of the elbow. The flexibility of the joint was determined by the physician, who then decided the settings. The brace was strapped at the upper arm and forearm to bypass the stress on the elbow. This item would make a vital addition to any Civil War display or collection.
