278-18 . . . . 19th century glass breast shields. In the Victorian era women wore extremely tight fitting corsetts. This caused problems for nursing mothers. The corsetts caused the breast to leak wetting the top of the gown. To prevent this, hollow breast shields were sewn into the garment. The breast shields had a small hole through which the nipple was placed. When the shield became full, it was simply emptied. Surviving examples are rare. I have one set, and two single shields in stock at this time.
