1052-07 . . . A wonderful early brass container. Such containers were used to store small personal items and salt. Salt was rare and very expensive in Colonial America. Trader who wandered the back woods often carried small container of salt that could be used for trading. In some areas of the country, a few ounces of salt could be traded for an Indian wife. I have two of these containers. Both are lightly corroided on the inside which is a good indication that they were used as salt containers.
